Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 3, 2015) - The Intimidators rallied for four runs in the ninth inning but could not overcome a 5-run deficit, falling to the Rome Braves, 6-5, on Sunday in front of 4,006 fans at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. With the tying and go-ahead runs on the corners, Rome's Kyle Kinman induced a Chris Curley pop up for the game's final out.

Down 6-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, Kannapolis plated four runs in the home half of the inning off Braves reliever Bradley Roney, who took over to open the frame. Roney walked the first four batters he faced, bringing in a run and forcing Rome manager Randy Ingle to once again go to the bullpen. Kinman gave up a 2-run double to Eddy Alvarez and threw a wild pitch to bring the Intimidators within a run, 6-5, before recording the final three outs.

Rome built an early 3-0 lead over the first two innings and added three more in the eighth. Keith Curcio once again paced the Braves, going 3-for-5 with two triples, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored.

Alvarez finished the game 1-for-4 with three RBI for the Intimidators.

Yency Almonte (0-1) settled down after allowing three early runs to work his final four frames scoreless. He finished with 6.0 innings of work and six strikeouts, allowing three runs on six hits while taking the loss. Kelvis Valerio gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits in the seventh inning. Matt Cooper tossed 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings in his Kannapolis debut.

Rome starter Brandon Barker (2-2) earned the win, giving up a run on four hits over 5.0 innings. Carlos Salazar kept the Intimidators off the board from the sixth through eighth innings.

Sunday's crowd of 4,006 is the largest Sunday attendance for the Intimidators since July 3, 2011, when the team hosted it's annual Independence Day fireworks show, drawing 5,432. Students from Cabarrus County Schools paraded around the field before Sunday's game to be recognized for their achievements in the classroom as Intimidators Reading All-Stars. The game also featured a special princess party with Princess Elsa, Anna, and Olaf.

The Intimidators wrap up the 4-game series on Monday against the Rome Braves at 7:05 p.m. with Belly Buster Monday, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings at Exit 54 in the Afton Ridge Shopping Center. All-you-can-eat wristbands are only $10 at all Monday night games in 2015 (some exclusions apply).
