Brandon Downes hit his third home run in two games, and he and Ryan O'Hearn each had three hits as the Lexington Legends won their second straight game over the Asheville Tourists 6-3 Sunday afternoon in Asheville. The Legends had 15 hits in the game, giving them 31 over the last two games after they had only two ninth-inning hits in the series opener Friday.

Each team scored a run in the first inning. Lexington's Carlos Garcia led off the game with a double, stole third base and came home on a sacrifice fly by O'Hearn. The Tourists came back in the bottom of the first on a double by Emerson Jimenez, an infield hit by Wes Rogers and a sacrifice fly by Drew Weeks. Legends' starter Matt Tenuta had to leave the game after being injured on the hit by Rogers, and was relieved by Kevin McCarthy.

The Legends moved ahead with a run in the third on a two-out double by O'Hearn and a run-scoring single by Wander Franco. Downes' solo homer in the fourth gave the Legends a 3-1 lead. Asheville cut the lead to one in the bottom of the fourth. Rogers, who was 4-for-4 in the game, doubled and scored when a grounder hit by Weeks got past Garcia at second base for an error.

The score remained 3-2 until the top of the eighth. Alfredo Escalera singled and moved to third on Downes' single. Escalera was thrown out at the plate by pitcher Blake Shouse, who had fielded a bunt by Michael Hill. Downes moved to second on the play and scored on a base hit by Kyle Pollock. A base hit by Garcia brought Hill home, giving the Legends a 5-2 lead.

Randy Reyes' leadoff home run in the bottom of the eighth made the score 5-3.

The Legends added a final run in the ninth when Escalera singled with two outs, stole second and came home on a single by Downes.

McCarthy (1-1) pitched three and two-thirds innings and got the win. Asheville starter Zach Jemiola (3-2) was the losing pitcher. Matt Strahm earned his second save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Legends have won two out of three in the series, which concludes Monday. Game time is 11:05 a.m.
