Power Rally For Win Over BlueClaws

Charleston, WV – The Lakewood BlueClaws (21-44) and the West Virginia Power (24-41), Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, continued their series Monday Night with the Power winning 10-8. Lakewood dropped their fifth game in a row as West Virginia rallied for their fourth straight win.

After pitching a complete game last time out, BlueClaws starter Maximo De La Cruz left after five innings having allowed six runs and Lakewood holding onto a 7-6 lead.

The Power tied the game at 8-8 in the seventh plating two runs on two hits off reliever Nate Johnson. With one out in the inning right-fielder Josh Brady's sac-fly plated the tying run. West Virginia then plated two runs on two hits in the eighth off Cory Dueitt (L, 0-2) to take a 10-8 lead, their first lead of the game.

Hernan Iribarren's one-out RBI triple scored Alcides Escobar and gave the Power a 9-8 lead. West Virginia got an insurance run on Will Lewis's RBI base hit to push the lead to 10-8.

The BlueClaws took an early lead in the first plating three runs with two outs in the inning. After Mike Dzurilla was hit by a pitch Sam Orr connected for a two-run homer to put Lakewood up 2-0. It was Orr's team leading 11th homer of the year and pushed his team leading RBI total to 45.

Doug Gredvig followed up with a solo-homer, his seventh of the year to give the BlueClaws 3-0 lead. It was the third time this year the BlueClaws have had back-to-back homers in an inning.

Jesus Merchan and Greg Golson had back-to-back RBI doubles in the third inning with two outs to give the BlueClaws a 7-3 lead over the Power.

De La Cruz allowed six runs, two earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out two for the no decision.

The BlueClaws look to avoid the series sweep Tuesday night with Lakewood sending southpaw J.A. Happ (3-2, 1.96) to the mound. The Power will counter with their lefty Greg Kloosterman (3-8, 4.70). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
