Power come back to win fourth in a row

Charleston, WV (JUNE 13, 2005) – The West Virginia Power trailed the Lakewood BlueClaws 7-3 after three innings on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power tied the game scoring twice in the seventh inning, and went on to put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth to beat Lakewood 10-8, and extended their winning streak to four, which is a new season high.

Back to back homeruns gave Lakewood a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sam Orr hit a two run shot and Doug Gredvig followed with a solo shot to give Lakewood the early advantage. Will Lewis scored the first Power run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on an errant throw from catcher Jason Jaramillo. Mike Dzurilla extended the Lakewood lead to 4-1 with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. The Power brought themselves within a run in the bottom of the second when Grant Richardson hit his fourth homerun of the season. The two run shot made it a 4-3 ballgame. Lakewood received back-to-back RBI doubles from Jesus Merchan and Greg Golson, and Sean Gamble contributed with an RBI single to give the BlueClaws a 7-3 lead in the top of the third. Josh Brady hit a fly ball to center fielder Greg Golson in the bottom of the fifth inning, which was dropped and kicked, allowing Will Lewis and Carlos Corporan to score. Tony Festa brought in Brady during the next at bat on an RBI single to make it a 7-6 game. Lakewood scored their final run of the game in the top of the seventh when Chris Klemm crossed the plate on an errant throw from Alcides Escobar. In the bottom of the seventh inning Josh Brady knocked in Hernan Iribarren on a Sac Fly RBI and Will Lewis scored the tying run on an errant throw from second baseman Brad Harman. The score was tied going into the bottom of the eighth inning. Hernan Iribarren drove in Alcides Escobar on an RBI triple and Will Lewis knocked in Iribarren during the next at bat on an RBI single to give the Power a 10-8 lead. Ben Stanczyk shut the door on the BlueClaws in the ninth inning to seal the deal.

Justin Barnes (3-1) earned the victory, Ben Stanczyk (3) earned the save and Cory Dueitt (0-2) obtained the loss. The Power improve to 24-41 with the win and the BlueClaws move to 21-44 with the loss.

The Power will conclude the series against the BlueClaws on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power will throw left-handed pitcher Greg Kloosterman (3-8, 4.70) and the BlueClaws will counter with left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ (3-2, 1.96). The first pitch will be delivered at 7:05 PM.
