Catcher Jon de Vries joins Greenville on the road

The Boston Red Sox announced on Saturday that catcher Jon de Vries has been assigned to the Greenville Bombers out of extended spring training in Ft. Myers, Florida.
The 22-year old spent time in the South Atlantic League in 2004, hitting .257 in 73 games for the Augusta GreenJackets. De Vries also hit 5 home runs and collected 35 RBI for the GreenJackets; his best game last season coming against the Bombers on June 1 when the California native doubled twice and drove in four runs.
De Vries was assigned to Greenville after outfielders Matt Ciaramella and Ian Cronkhite were both placed on the disabled list.
The Bombers conclude an 8-game road trip on Monday night with a doubleheader against the Asheville Tourists (Colorado Rockies).
Greenville returns home on Thursday night for a 4-game homestand against the Charleston RiverDogs (New York Yankees) at 7:05 p.m. at Greenville Municipal Stadium. Highlights of the homestand include a free team photo, sponsored by Cherokee Valley, for the first 1,000 people on Friday and the entertainment act Birdzerk, sponsored by Bidzirk on Saturday. Sunday's 6:05 p.m. start will feature "Kids Eat Free" voucher (with the purchase of a general admission ticket) and "Kids Run the Bases" following the game.
