Rome Wins Fourth Straight

Rome, GA – The Rome Braves came from behind late in the game for the second straight night to hand the Hickory Crawdads their ninth consecutive loss 8-4 in front of 2,777 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

The scoring started in the bottom of the third with the Braves jumping out to an early 1-0 lead thanks in part to a leadoff double by Carl Loadenthal who later came around to score on an RBI groundout by J.C. Holt. The Crawdads AJ Johnson gave Hickory the lead in the fifth inning on a single to right field driving in a pair of runs. A Mike Carlin sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth helped Hickory increase their lead to 3-1.

Rome would respond with a sacrifice fly of their own in the bottom half of the inning off the bat of Mike Young to cut the lead to 3-2. However, Hickory pushed their lead right back to two runs when Johnson, who went 3 for 4 on the night, drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single. With the Braves trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, they spun a rally which saw them score six times highlighted by a Mark Jurich bases loaded clearing triple and a two-run blast over the left field wall off the bat of Clint Sammons. Sammons, who had his team leading 18th multi-hit game of the season, finished the night 2 for 4 including his first home run on the year. James Parr pitched a perfect ninth inning along with two other solid innings of work to get the win, improving his record to 6-3 on the year. Hickory's Alex Lissir takes the loss (0-1).

Roster Moves – Pitcher Dan Smith has been moved to Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League. The left-hander was 3-2 with a 1.89 ERA while opponents were hitting .205 against him.
