Kannapolis Intimidators Snap Catfish Three-Game Winning Streak

KANNAPOLIS, NCâThe Kannapolis Intimidators ended the Columbus Catfish's three-game winning streak tonight with a 12-3 win at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis in front of 1,118 fans. The Intimidators did not lead in the first two games of the series but scored four runs in the first inning and five in the third inning en route to their 12-3 victory, using three HR to top the Fish. CF Jamie Hoffmann had his second consecutive four hit night, rapping out four singles in a 4-5 performance. Hoffmann leads the team with 75 hits in 63 games. SS Cole Bruce homered for the fourth time in five games, finishing 2-3 with a 2B, HR, and 2 RBI. The Fish fall to 26-38 in the SAL First Half while Kannapolis stands at 33-32.
RHP Brandon Weeden started tonight and took the loss for the Fish, giving up a two-run HR to Intimidator SS Ryan McCarthy in the first inning and later allowing C Francisco Hernandez to single home two runs. In the third inning leading 4-0, Kannapolis RF Clint King homered to right to make it 5-0, and later in the inning CF Sean Smith homered to left field, driving home three runs to make it 9-0 Kannapolis.
The Fish scored in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Bruce and got a run in the seventh inning on a fielder's choice groundout off the bat of LF Brandon Carter. Bruce's HR tonight came with two outs in the ninth and the bases empty.
Tomorrow the Catfish finish the four-game series with Kannapolis and try for just their second road series win of the season when they square off with the Intimidators at 11:05 AM. LHP Scott Elbert (2-2, 2.52 ERA) starts for Columbus. The game can be heard on 1460 AM WHAL in Columbus but will not be carried over the internet.
