POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost 11-5 on Tuesday night to Hickory. The Crawdads tallied five runs over the first seven batters of the games against Trent Stevenson and added a pair in the second off Porfirio Lopez. The Power scored runs in the first, second, third, and fifth to cut the deficit down to two at 7-5, but Hickory recaptured momentum in the sixth with the final four runs of the game. Cole White and Rogelio Noris hit home runs in the loss.
FIVE DOWN: West Virginia has lost five in a row for the third time this season, their longest losing stretch at any point in 2011. The Power dropped all five games during a trip to Kannapolis in April and lost five straight to begin July.
TRIPLE THREAT: Andy Vasquez's triple on Sunday gives him eight for the season, tops in the SAL so far. Vasquez's total has matched Alcides Escobar, Hernan Iribarren, and Lee Haydel for the second-most three base hits in a season. Quincy Latimore holds the single season record with 10 during the 2009 campaign.
JILTED AND JOLTIN' JULY: The Power are 1-10 this month with a .245 batting average and a staff earned run average of 7.27. West Virginia is averaging 3.55 runs per game in July, but allowing an average of 7.36. The Power are on an early pace, though, to hit more home runs this month than they have during any other month this season. West Virginia is on pace for 20 July home runs after hitting 10 in April, 12 in May, and 14 in June.
ROLLIN: Justin Howard went 1-2 in his last game (7/06 @ HAG) and is batting .323 during his nine-game hitting streak, matching Matt Curry and Drew Maggi for the longest hitting streak by any Power player this season.
HICKORY HISTORY: The Power and Crawdads meet a total of 11 times this season after playing seven times all of last year. The Crawdads won the 2010 season set 4-3, and the 2011 series is tied 4-4 after last night's Crawdad win. The Power lead the all-time series 44-30, and hold a 26-11 advantage at Appalachian Power Park.
ECLIPSED: After the getting swept by the Suns over the weekend, the all-time series between West Virginia and Hagerstown is now in the Suns' favor. Hagertsown won the season series 7-2, and now leads the all-time set 50-47.
HOME RUN HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 23 career home runs for West Virginia over a season and a half in a Power jersey. Noris has now surpassed Kenny Holmberg's two-year total of 22 for second most in club history. Stephen Chapman hit 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007, the most in any season for West Virginia, and also the most in any player's Power career.
POWER POINTS: The Charleston River Dogs will make their first appearance at Appalachian Power Park since 2009 later this week... West Virginia and Savannah are the only clubs who have not hit a grand slam this season... Drew Maggi has reached base in 17 straight home games dating back to May 21.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh is idle during the All-Star break and will open a series in Houston on Thursday night... Indianapolis and Altoone were idle during their respective All-Star breaks... Bradenton had Tuesday off and opens a series at Dunedin tonight. Brandon Cumpton will make the start... State College did not play.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
