Lakewood Falls in Extra Innings on Wednesday

GREENVILLE, SC - It took 11 innings, but the Greenville Drive emerged victorious 7-6 in dramatic fashion over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday night. Lakewood took a 6-4 lead on a huge 2 run Home Run by Domingo Santana in the top of the 11th, but Greenville scored 3 times in the bottom of the 11th to steal the victory. The Drive did out hit the BlueClaws 14 to 8, but it was a game Lakewood had in the bag with a 2 run lead and just needing to record the final 3 outs to close it out.

Lakewood led 4-0 after 3 1/2 innings, but Greenville had tied it at 4-4 heading to the 6th inning. It stayed at 4-4 all the way until the 11th when Domingo Santana hit his 7th HR of the year to put Lakewood out in front 6-4. Colby Shreve (3-5) stayed in the game to start his 3rd inning of relief, but the Drive finally got the righty from Nevada scoring 3 times to win it. There was a costly error on the SS Edgar Duran, a wild pitch, a walk, and 2 singles in the inning. Michael Almanzar won it with his 2 RBI single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 11th.

Ervis Manzanillo (7-4) only lasted 3 2/3rd innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs to snap his personal 3 game win streak. Dennis Neuman (1-1) got his first win after throwing 2 innings of work allowing 1 hit and 2 runs on the Santana homer. Santana finished 2-5 with a HR, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Edgar Duran also chipped in with 2 hits for Lakewood.

Thursday the BlueClaws will send out their All-Star righty David Buchanan (9-5) who will be going for his league leading 10th victory of the season in game 3 of the 4 game series versus the Drive. Greenville will counter with righty Keith Couch (3-2). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Thursday.
