
Early Runs Too Much for Power to Overcome

The West Virginia Power gave up an early lead to the Hickory Crawdads and couldn't come back as they drop game two of a four game series 7-2 Wednesday evening. The Crawdads went up 5-0 after the top of the third inning and never let the Power battle back to hand West Virginia the loss.
Hickory started the scoring in the first inning with two runs. Jurickson Profar led off with a double and scored on a double by Andrew Clark. Clark would cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by Odubel Herrera giving the Crawdads the early 2-0 lead.
Hickory added three runs in the top half of the third inning on a three run home run from Andrew Clark that boosted the Crawdads ahead 5-0.
The Power scored their first run on the game in the bottom of the third inning. Rogelio Noris led off with a single and came around to score on a single from Mel Rojas Jr. that moved the scored to 5-1.
The Power tallied a second run in the sixth inning after Kevin Mort started the inning with a single. Mort scored on a fielder's choice, sliding into home safely in front of the flip to the catcher from Crawdad starter Roman Mendez.
Mendez (7-1) pitched six innings for Hickory, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out eight Power batters. Fuesser (2-3) picked up the loss for the Power working five innings giving up five runs on six hits.
The Crawdads added two runs in the eighth inning following two Power fielding mishaps that led the game to its final count of 7-2.
West Virginia and Hickory go at it again Thursday evening with a 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Power right hander Zack Von Rosenberg will return to the starting rotation to face off against Cody Buckel on the Thirsty Thursday at Appalachian Power Park.
