Salisbury, Md. - The Baltimore Orioles announced today that Shorebirds all-star left-handed pitcher Jacob Pettit has been promoted to the Frederick Keys. Pettit was one of two Shorebirds pitchers (David Walters) selected to the 2011 South Atlantic "Strike Out Hunger" All-Star Game. In 15 starts and 16 total appearances, Pettit was tied for the staff high with five wins and posted a 4.42 ERA.

The former 42nd round selection of the Orioles baffled South Atlantic League hitters in the first half of the season. He posted a 5-2 record with a 3.74 ERA in the first half of the year. Pettit was also the most durable pitcher on staff. He went through the fifth inning in 13 of 16 outings and went through the sixth 11 times.

Pettit had his most dominant start against the Charleston RiverDogs (Yankees) on May 1. In a season high eight innings, he scattered just five hits and did not allow a run. He also fanned a season best eight batters.

In the SAL All-Star Game on June 21, Pettit tossed a scoreless fifth inning which included inducing a groundout of Rockies first round draft pick Kyle Parker.

The 24-year old did not have the same success since the all-star break. In three starts, he went 0-2 with a 8.16 ERA.

The Orioles did not announce a corresponding move. The Shorebirds roster is one player below the league maximum of 25.

The Shorebirds play game two against the Asheville Tourists at Perdue Stadium at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday. For tickets and more information, contact the Shorebirds at 410-219-3112.
