Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
The West Virginia Power lost 10-6 to the Lakewood BlueClaws in 12 innings on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. The BlueClaws scored four runs on four hits and a walk in the top of the 12th inning to seal the win.
West Virginia held an early advantage when Aaron Baker doubled home two runs in the third inning, but Lakewood took a 3-2 lead on a home run by Jeremy Barnes. That lead was short-lived, though, as the Power regained the edge with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on doubles by Jose Hernandez and Rogelio Noris. The BluwClaws evened the score at four in the seventh on a run-scoring infield groundout.
The game remained tied after nine innings and team each plated two on home runs in the tenth. Stephen Batts hits a two-run shot to left against Gabriel Alvarado to put Lakewood up 6-4, while Hernandez tied the game with a two-run home run of his own to left center.
After a quiet 11th inning, Lakewood tagged Marc Baca for four runs on singles by Jonathan Singleton and Sebastian Valle, a walk to Michael Dabbs, a single from Stephen Batts, and a key double by Barnes that score a pair to cap the scoring.
Kyle Carr faced the minimum in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
Baca (4-3) took the loss, while Mike McGuire (1-1) picked up the win after blowing a save chance in the 12th. Seven players had multiple hits, including Hernandez and Noris for the Power.
This series will conclude Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park as West Virginia send Phillip Irwin against Lakewood's Jonathan Pettibone.
