CHARLESTON, WV - After scoring just 11 runs in their last three games, the BlueClaws put ten on the board Monday night in a 10-6 twelve inning win over the West Virginia Power.
Jonathan Singleton started the twelfth against reliever Marc Baca (4-3) with a single, and he took second on a wild pitch. Sebastian Valle brought him in with an RBI single, Michael Dabbs walked, and Stephen Batts singled in another run. Jeremy Barnes followed that up with his third double of the game to plate two more runs and push the lead to 10-6.
Singleton went 3-for-6 coming off his first off-day of the season. He had been in a 3-for-27 slump. Barnes had a great night, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs.
The BlueClaws (26-17) took a two-run lead in the tenth only to see the Power battle back in the bottom half of the inning. It was Stephen Batts who broke a 4-4 tie with a two out two-run shot to give the Claws a 6-4 edge.
It was Batts' fourth homer of the season. He now has more than one hit in five of his last six games.
After a runner reached on an error by shortstop Alan Schoenberger, West Virginia (21-23) tied the game with one out on a Jose Hernandez two-run homer off Mike McGuire (1-1). McGuire did manage to retire the next five batters he faced to keep the game tied.
The Power took a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-run double by Aaron Baker, but Lakewood jumped ahead on a three-run shot by Jeremy Barnes in the fourth.
West Virginia regained the advantage in the fifth. Jose Hernandez and Rogelio Noris each hit RBI doubles to make it a 4-3 game.
A Jiwan James fielder's choice ground out to short tied things up in the seventh.
Tuesday at 7:05 pm RHP Jonathan Pettibone (4-5, 3.91) goes up against RHP Phillip Irwin (5-1, 2.39).
