Barreda Transferred from Staten Island to Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Monday that right-handed pitcher Manny Barreda has been transferred from Short Season Staten Island to the Charleston RiverDogs.

Barreda, a Sahuarita, Ariz. native, began 2009 with the GCL Yankees, appearing in 14 games with the club from July 10 through Aug. 28. The right-hander posted a 0-1 record, with two saves, and 1.93 ERA through a total of 23.1 innings of work, giving up 10 hits, five earned runs, and seven walks, with 25 strikeouts.

A 12th round selection of the Yankees in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Barreda was promoted to the RiverDogs in the South Atlantic League in Sept. of 2009. The 21-year-old hurler appeared in two games with Charleston, compiling a 1-0 record and 13.50 ERA, surrendering one hit, four earned runs and four walks, with 2 strikeouts, in a total of 2.2 innings on the mound.
