Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
The Kannapolis Intimidators commit two costly second inning errors, leading to three Hagerstown Suns runs, and a 4-1 loss on Monday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Behind starter Justin Collop, he allowed two hits back-to-back in the second, one off his leg and there were two on with no one out. The next batter, Adrian Nieto put a sacrifice bunt down, but Miguel Gonzalez threw the ball into right field, allowing a runner to score and runners to end up at second and third with no one out. In that situation, Justino Cuevas hit a line drive at Daniel Wagner, who threw the ball away to second in a double play attempt, scoring both of the runners on base and allowing the Suns (17-27) to get out to a 3-0 lead.
Paul Applebee started and pitched well for the Suns as he allowed one lone run in the third, an RBI single by Brady Shoemaker after a Tyler Saladino double as the Intimidators (20-23) went just 1-for-10 on the night with runners in scoring position. Applebee (4-4) went seven innings and scattered seven hits and one run in the victory. Dean Weaver got the last four outs in order to achieve his 15th save of the season.
For the Intimidators, Collop (8-8) went six and allowed four runs, one earned with seven strikeouts in the loss. Matt Wickswat worked 2.1 scoreless and Orlando Santos struck out the final two batters of the top of the ninth in his outing.
The Intimidators were out-hit 11-7 as they lose their second straight, turning game five into the rubber match at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, ending an eight-game homestand. The Intimidators, with a win, could go 6-2 in these eight games with two series wins as they look to Andre Rienzo, the Suns will counter with Billy Ott.
