J.P. Ramirez Named SAL Player of the Week

J.P. Ramirez of the Hagerstown Suns has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for his performance from August 2nd to the 8th.

During the week, Ramirez got a seven-game hit streak, including four home runs and four multi-hit contests. Combined he hit .464 (13-for-28) with nine RBIs.

"I feel great. This honor means a lot," says Ramirez, "Right now I'm seeing the ball real well and putting it in play. I'm real locked in. All the hard work is paying off after getting to the field early and spending extra time in the cage. I just want to keep my roll on and keep going with the flow."

The Suns went 4-3 during the week, including winning their second series in the second half, taking three out of four against the Lexington Legends at Municipal Stadium.

Since the All-Star Break, Ramirez has hit .303 in 41 games, hitting eight home runs with 23 RBI.

"J.P. has really been on a tear and he's getting good pitches to hit," says Suns manager Matt LeCroy, "Ramirez has been a guy that's helped us all year, and I'm really glad things are falling into place for him."

Ramirez is the second Suns to earned SAL Player of the Week honors. Justin Bloxom got the award for the week of June 14th thru June 20th. In addition, Daniel Rosenbaum earned SAL Pitcher of the Week while with the Suns for the week of May 10th thru the 16th.

The Suns are currently on the road against the Kannapolis Intimidators and will return for a five-game set against the Greensboro Grasshoppers starting on August 12th.
