HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power fell 12-5 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers to open a three game series. The power went down seven runs in the first and ultimately weren't able to recover from the early offensive onslaught.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers jumped on the Power quickly, putting up seven runs in the first inning against West Virginia starter, Zack Von Rosenberg. A collection of hit batsmen, a walk and four base hits added up to an early 7-0 ‘Hopper lead.

Von Rosenberg (3-6) wasn't able to make it out of the first inning and took the loss, being replaced by Jonathan Ramos with two outs in the inning.

The Power were able to battle back into the game in the bottom of the first inning. Andy Vasquez reached on an error and scored on a double from Mel Rojas Jr. West Virginia followed with two more consecutive doubles from Justin Howard and Cole White that scored Rojas Jr. and Howard bringing the score to 7-3.

Ramos would provide impressive relief work for the Power, pitching five and one third innings, not allowing any runs on three hits and striking out four.

West Virginia closed the gap to 7-5 in the sixth inning. Cole White doubled and then reached third on a Chase Lyles single. Rogelio Noris was hit by a pitch moving Lyles up to second base. Kevin Mort drove a two run single into to right centerfield scoring White and Lyles.

Greensboro was able to boost their lead in the eighth with four run on three hits. Three singles and a walk brought four ‘Hoppers across the plate and the Power fell behind 11-5. Greensboro would add a run in the ninth with a solo home run from Ryan Fisher off of Power second basemen turned pitched, Kevin Mort leading to a 12-5 final.

West Virginia will play game two of the three game series against Greensboro on Saturday evening, with a first pitch for 7:05 p.m. Zac Fuesser with take the mound for the Power matched up against [Hopper Starter]. Saturday Night is Military Appreciation Night at Appalachian Power Park.
