Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Asheville Tourists capitalized on four ninth innings walks from Intimidators pitchers, edging out a 5-4 win over Kannapolis at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Friday night. Reliever Jon Bachanov walked three straight after retiring the first two batters in the top of the ninth, and the go-ahead scored on a Phil Negus wild pitch.
Kraig Sitton (5-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, and Juan Perez induced a double play groundout from Dan Black to end the game for his 16th save. Bachanov (0-1) took the loss in his debut outing with Kannapolis.
The Tourists struck first on Bryce Massanari's solo home run in the top of the third, and Corey Dickerson tripled to batters later to give Asheville a 2-0 lead. Kannapolis tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Marcus Semien doubled home Brady Shoemaker on his first career hit. Juan Silverio followed with a run-scoring single to knot the game, 2-2.
After Asheville reclaimed the lead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth, John Spatola launched a two-run home run (4) off reliever Josh Hungerman over the right field wall to give the Intimidators a 4-3 edge.
The Tourists answered off Intimidators starter Spencer Arroyo in the top of the seventh. Cristhian Adames squeezed a single up the middle with two outs, and Massanari doubled him home to tie the game, 4-4. Arroyo finished the game allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits in in seven innings of work. Chase Cooney struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 eighth inning, his sixth straight appearance without allowing a run.
Asheville starter Josh Mueller went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Hungerman kept Kannapolis from breaking a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh, striking out two batters with runners on second and third to end the inning.
The Intimidators continue the three-game series against the Asheville Tourists on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. For tickets, please call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
