Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD - It was a low scoring affair Friday night in Salisbury, MD as the Lakewood BlueClaws found themselves in yet another 1 run ballgame. This time, the Delmarva Shorebirds got the better of Lakewood with 2-1 win in the series opener. Each team committed 3 errors, and the 2 clubs combined for just 9 hits in the game. Delmarva has now won 3 straight while the BlueClaws have lost 2 consecutive games.

Lisalberto Bonilla (0-2) got the start and pitched well for the BlueClaws allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings striking out 6. Bonilla did not factor into the decision as he lowered his ERA down to 1.79 on the year, but has still yet to collect his first win for Lakewood. Chase Johnson got the loss as he tossed 2 innings in relief allowing 1 unearned run that scored on a costly throwing error by Johnson himself. Delmarav started Tim Berry and he allowed just 1 hit over 5 innings of shutout ball while fanning 8. Randy Henry (2-0) got the win for the Shorebirds and David Walters pitched the 9th to pick up his 19th save of the year.

Miguel Alvarez pretty much was the offense for Lakewood Friday. The BlueClaws were held hitless until Alvarez singled with 1 out in the top of the 5th. Alvarez later scored the BlueClaws only run as he reached base on a fielding error by Delmarva SS Garabez Rosa with 2 outs, stole 2B, took 3rd on a throwing error by the C Joe Oliveira, then scored on another throwing error by the CF Brenden Webb. Geancarlo Mendez, Jim Murphy, and Cameron Rupp had the only other 3 hits of the game for the BlueClaws.

Saturday the 2 teams will face off for game 2 of the 3 game series with LHP Ervis Manzanillo (5-4, 4.70 ERA) taking the mound for Lakewood, and RHP Scott Copeland (5-5, 5.42 ERA) throwing for Delmarva. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Saturday.
