Suns Chase Away BlueClaws, Win 8-4 in Game Four Finale

Hagerstown, MD-The Hagerstown Suns (5-2, 45-32) disposed of the Lakewood BlueClaws (3-4, 36-39) on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium by a score of 8-4. Suns LHP Sammy Solis (2-1), earned win number two in his Minor League tenure after tossing 6.0 innings in which he allowed three earned runs on 11 hits, with no walks and six strikeouts.

The Suns struck first with two runs in the 1st inning on an RBI double to deep center field by RF Kevin Keyes and an RBI one-base lasher by SS Jason Martinson to left field.

Lakewood tallied one run in the 2nd frame when 3B Travis Mattair went the other way with an RBI single to right field scoring the double of RF Domingo Santana.

The BlueClaws tallied once in the 4th stanza to tie the contest 2-2 on a Mattair RBI groundout to Martinson at shortstop, plating DH Anthony Hewitt, who singled.

Hagerstown grabbed the lead with one run in the 5th inning as 2B Adrian Sanchez doubled past CF Zach Collier. Sanchez advanced to third base on a long fly ball to right center field by CF Bryce Harper. A wild pitch from RHP Garett Claypool, who did not factor into the decision, allowed Sanchez to touch home. Claypool threw 5.0 innings, surrendering three earned runs on four hits, while walking six and fanning five.

The see-saw contest continued as the ‘Claws received an RBI single from Hewitt to the tie the game in the 6th frame which summoned home the double of C Jeff Lanning. Hewitt was out on the throw from Harper to Solis backing up the plate, who then launched the ball to Kelso at third base.

The Suns swatted back in the last of the 6th inning as C Cole Leonida lifted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the right field fence giving Hagerstown a 5-3 advantage.

BlueClaws RHP Colby Shreve (3-4), the losing pitcher of record, allowed four earned runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.

Lakewood responded in the 7th inning with a single run on a double by 1B Jim Murphy which scored SS Carlos Perdomo, who walked to cut the Suns lead to one run.

Hagerstown would then explode for three runs after stretch time in the 7th on a pair of bases loaded RBI walks by CF Michael Taylor and 3B Blake Kelso before Leonida sprinted home on a wild pitch by RHP Tyler Knigge.

LHP Chris Manno dealt scoreless frames in the 8th and 9th highlighting his relief outing with four strikeouts to seal the deal on the Suns triumph.

The Suns will host the Lexington Legends for a 7:05pm first pitch on Friday night. The radio flagship of the Hagerstown Suns, WJEJ AM 1240, will provide wall-to-wall radio coverage beginning with a 6:50pm Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show. The Suns will bring LHP Robbie Ray (2-1, 2.01) to the mound to face LHP Alex Sogard (1-3, 4.37).
