Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power dropped a 4-2 final to the Delmarva Shorebirds Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power scored twice late but could not overcome two Shorebird insurance runs and lost for the second straight night.

Delmarva scored the game's first run for the third time in the series when Jason Esposito hit a solo home run off Nick Kingham in the fourth inning. One out later, Conner Narron added a solo shot for a 2-0 Shorebird lead. Kingham has surrendered 11 home runs in 12 starts this season, tied for the most in the South Atlantic League.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh, West Virginia broke up the shutout with a pair of runs. After Delmarva starter Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six scoreless innings, Jesse Beal surrendered a one-out double to Junior Sosa in the seventh. Elias Diaz singled Sosa home and later scored on a single by Gregory Polanco. With runners on the corners and a 3-2 lead, Beal induced a ground out to end the inning.

Delmarva would add a run in the eighth before Beal retired the final six batters he faced to end the game.

Kingham (1-4) took the loss for the Power while Rodriguez (2-1) garnered the win. Beal pitched the final three innings for his first save. Sosa and Alen Hanson had two hits each to lead the West Virginia offense.

Delmarva took two of three in the series. The Power and Shorebirds will meet 13 more times this season, though not again until the second half.

West Virginia has Thursday evening off and opens a three game series at Asheville on Friday evening. The Power return home to battle Hagerstown on June 14 in the first game of the final series of the first half of the season.

POWER RECORD: 19-41
