Asheville Tourists News Release

The Asheville Tourists were frustrated all evening as they managed only one run on three hits in Savannah. The Sand Gnats surprised the Tourists, who had won five straight, with timely hitting and a dominating pitching performance from Logan Verrett.

Asheville had a chance to set the tone in the first inning. The T's put runners at the corners with one out, but Verrett induced an inning ending double play off the bat of Harold Riggins. Savannah's starting pitcher sat down 15 straight before David Kandilas reached on a bunt single in the sixth; Asheville's first hit of the game.

Savannah totaled 13 hits in the game and never looked back after taking a 1-0 lead in the first. The home team plated two more in the fourth and another two in the sixth. Danny Winkler suffered the loss for Asheville; his first in his last six starts, and Nelson Gonzalez was touched up for three runs in the eighth.

T.J. Rivera and Dustin Lawley each had three hits for Savannah while Brian Harrison, Charlie Thurber, and Greg Pron contributed two hits apiece. Asheville's lone run came in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Massey.

The two teams have a doubleheader scheduled for 5:45 Thursday evening with each game slated for seven innings.
