Suns Score Early, Can Kannapolis

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (35-23) scored eight runs in the first three innings against the Kannapolis Intimidators (28-31) in an eventual 9-6 win at Municipal Stadium on Wednesday night.

Steven Souza Jr. led the Suns attack going 3-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Cole Leonida blasted a two-run homer for Hagerstown, while Brett Newsome and Justin Miller each had two hits and an RBI for the winners.

Suns' starter Pedro Encarnacion did not factor in the decision, allowing three runs over three innings. Reliever Ben Hawkins (1-0) earned the victory pitching three innings, allowing two runs on four hits out of the bullpen. Wilson Eusebio (1) struck out the final two batters in a perfect ninth inning for the save.

Intimidators' starting pitcher Myles Jaye (2-3) suffered the loss, lasting just 2.1 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits. Keenyn Walker went 2-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate. Rangel Ravelo chipped in with a two-run triple in the losing effort.

The Suns conclude the series and home-stand tomorrow, a Thirsty Thursday, presented by Benny's Pub, at 7:05 pm. RHP Alex Meyer (4-3, 3.71) will make the start for Hagerstown against Kannapolis RHP Erik Johnson (1-0, 0.00).
