(LAKEWOOD, N.J.) Delino DeShields Jr. hit a bases-loaded triple in the second inning, and pitchers Armando Galarraga and Jonas Dufek teamed up to hold Lakewood to one run on seven hits as the Lexington Legends took a 4-1 victory over the BlueClaws Wednesday night.
Drew Muren led off the top of the second with a single and moved to third on Mike Kvasnicka's double. After Brandon Meredith struck out, Roberto Pena singled, scoring Muren with the game's first run as Kvasnicka moved to third. Jimmy Howick walked, loading the bases, and DeShields hit a line drive over the head of center fielder Aaron Altherr, clearing the bases and giving the Legends a 4-0 lead.
Lakewood scored its only run in the fourth against Galarraga. Chris Duffy, who had three hits in the game, led off with a single and moved to second on an infield out. After Maikel Franco walked, Bob
Stumpo delivered a single to center field, scoring Duffy.
Galarraga, a former major leaguer best known for losing out on a perfect game in 2010 on a missed call with two outs in the ninth inning, made the start for the Legends as he attempts a comeback after signing with the Houston Astros May 21. Galarraga worked through the first four innings, allowing one run on four hits. He walked two batters. Dufek (2-1), who normally would have been the starter, earned the victory, shutting out the BlueClaws over the final five innings on three hits. He struck out seven batters and walked none.
Galarraga will join the Astros triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City before his next appearance.
Each team has won one game in the series, which concludes Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
