Shorebirds Take Series with 4-2 Win in Finale

Charleston, WV - Eduardo Rodriguez tossed six shutout innings to lead the Delmarva Shorebirds (24-35) to a 4-2 win in the series finale over the West Virginia Power (19-41) on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. With the victory, the Shorebirds secured their first series win since the Greenville Drive series at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium from April 24-27.

The Shorebirds powered on the board in the fourth inning. Jason Esposito led off with a line drive home run over the left-center field wall to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Connor Narron hit a towering home run over the right-center field wall to stretch the lead to 2-0. Narron now leads the Shorebirds with six home runs. Narron has three home runs and eight RBIs in his last five games.

The Shorebirds took a 3-0 lead in the seventh inning. Wynston Sawyer and Tommy Winegardner hit back-to-back singles. Later in the inning, Nicky Delmonico picked up his 34th RBI of the season on a groundout to short.

Shorebirds starter Eduardo Rodriguez earned the win in six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits.

The Power trimmed the gap to one with two runs in the seventh against reliever Jesse Beal.

In the eighth, Winegardner hit a chopper down left field to score Narron to increase the lead to 4-2. Winegardner recorded his first multi-hit game of the season.

Beal retired the Power in order in both the eighth and ninth innings to earn his first save of the season. He retired the final seven batters of the game in order.
