The Portland Winterhawks closed out the exhibition schedule Friday with a 7-4 win in Everett, finishing the preseason with a record of 4-3. The 2015-16 season gets underway this weekend when the team travels to Victoria, British Columbia to take on the Royals Friday and Saturday. Todd Vrooman will have all the action live on News Talk 860 KPAM. The Hawks will have their home opener next weekend, on Saturday, October 3, when they host the Everett Silvertips at the Moda Center at 7 p.m. in the Pacific Automation 40th Anniversary Home Opener.
Earlier this morning, the Detroit Red Wings reassigned Dominic Turgeon to the Winterhawks. He's the sixth of nine players to return to the Hawks, joining Rodrigo Abols (Vancouver), Jack Dougherty (Nashville), Adin Hill (Arizona), Caleb Jones (Edmonton) and Alex Schoenborn (San Jose). Remaining at NHL camps at this time are Paul Bittner (Columbus), Keegan Iverson (New York Rangers) and Keoni Texeira (Washington).
Sixteen-year-old rookie Cody Glass led the team in scoring during the preseason, registering two goals and five assists for seven points in seven games. Glass was the team's first round pick, 19th overall, in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. Right behind him in preseason scoring was second-year forward Alex Overhardt, who had four goals and two assists for six points.
