Portland wins the suspended game 10-8; Bates on-base streak snapped

(New Britain, CT) - LHP Ryan Mullins (1-5) hurled five scoreless frames and LF Matt Moses hit a 3-run homer, leading the New Britain Rock Cats (14-19) past the Portland Sea Dogs (17-16) 6-0 on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 6,277 at New Britain Stadium. Earlier in the day, the Sea Dogs completed last night's suspended game and held on for a 10-8 victory.

In the nightcap, Mullins scattered six hits without a walk and fanned seven. Portland had a hit in every inning against the lefty but went 0-for-5 with runners-in-scoring position.

RHP Blake Maxwell (0-3) yielded nine hits and six runs through 5 IP to take the loss for Portland. Moses put the game away with his 3-run homer, extending the ‘Cats lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning. New Britain scored a run in the first inning on a 2-out, run-scoring single by 1B Whit Robbins (3-for-3, RBI). RF Rene Tosoni added an RBI double in the second inning and CF Brandon Roberts gave New Britain a 3-0 lead with a sacrifice fly.

C Mark Wagner returned from the disabled list and went 2-for-3 with a double. RF Bubba Bell went 2-for-3 but LF Aaron Bates (0-for-3) had his on-base streak snapped at 23 consecutive games. 2B Ryan Khoury and 1B Lars Anderson each had singles for the ‘Dogs, who had just 5 hits against three New Britain pitchers.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats play a day/night doubleheader on Saturday at New Britain Stadium. Notes...Portland is 3-2 on the roadtrip, both losses have been shutouts...CF Ryan Kalish made his Double-A debut in the suspended game and went 0-for-3...Kalish made the start in the nightcap and went 0-for-3...The Rock Cats have scored the last 13 runs of the series.

Below is a recap of the suspended game (New Britain, CT) - The Portland Sea Dogs (17-15) resumed a Thursday night's suspended game and defeated the New Britain Rock Cats (13-19) 10-8 on Friday at New Britain Stadium. Portland led 10-1 but the Rock Cats scored seven runs over innings 7 and 8 but RHP T.J. Large worked 1.2 IP to earn his third save of the year.

RHP Chad Rhoades relieved last night's starter RHP Jarod Plummer and earned the win. Rhoades pitched three innings on three hits and two runs.

New Britain starter RHP Jay Rainville (1-2) suffered the loss, yielding 7 runs (6 earned) in 2.2 IP.

Portland scored nine of 10 runs with two outs, including seven in the third inning, sending 11 men to the plate. 2B Ryan Khoury (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 2B, BB) tied the game at one with an RBI double down the left-field line. 1B Lars Anderson (1-for-4, 2 RBI) nailed a 2-run single, 3B Jorge Jimenez (3-for-4, HR, 4 RBI) hit a 3-run homer and RF Reid Engel (1-for-4, RBI, BB) smacked a run-scoring double. The ‘Dogs 8th run scored on a wild pitch by RHP Frank Mata.

Khoury knocked in the final two runs with RBI doubles in the sixth and eighth innings.

2B Brian Dinkelman had 3 hits and 5 RBI, clubbing a 3-run homer during New Britain's 5-run seventh inning. RF Rene Tosoni homered and had two hits for New Britain.

CF Ryan Kalish went 0-for-3 in his Double-A debut for the Sea Dogs. LHP Kyle Fernandes allowed five runs on four hits and three walks in just 1.1 IP.
