
Akron rallies past Curve, 5-3

ALTOONA, PA - Two fine pitching performances were turned Friday night at Blair County Ballpark by Curve starter Brad Lincoln and Akron lefty Chuck Lofgren (3-0) and while Lincoln out dueled Lofgren it was the lefty and the Aeros who came away with a 5-3 victory.
Lincoln went a career best seven innings giving up one run on five hits seven strikeouts for Altoona picking up a no decision. Lofgren also went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Jose Constanza singled to center to drive in Jerad Head for first run of the ballgame for Akron.
Altoona rallied in the seventh when Jonel Pacheco singled through the left side of the infield to score Brad Corley to tie the game at 1. The next batter up was Jamie Romak who battled through a tough at bat, pushing the count full after being down 0-2, before singling up the middle to score Pacheco and give the Curve their first lead of the night at 2-1.
Carlos Rivero led off the eighth with a double then scored on a Matt McBride double to even the game 2-2. Then Nick Weglarz broke the game open for Akron on a three run homer giving Akron a 5-2 edge.
Anderson Machado tripled to start the Curve eighth and then was driven in by Corley to get Altoona within two runs.
Altoona (11-22) will get two chances to snap its current losing streak to the Aeros (25-7) Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 5:05 at BCB. In game 1 Altoona will throw right hander Jared Hughes (1-4, 2.22) and righty Erik Stiller (1-2, 3.79) will be on the mound for Akron. Radio coverage for Saturday's double header will begin at 4:35 on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Saturday is EMS Appreciation Night at the ballpark and after Saturday's games fans will be treated to a spectacular fireworks display presented by U.S. Foodservice.
