Aerodynamics...

Picture Perfect...

Akron got its eight-day road trip started on the right foot last night, clicking on all cylinders and suffocating Altoona 7-0 behind the combination of dominant starting pitching, clutch hitting, and flawless defense. Starter Jeanmar Gomez worked eight sublime innings while not allowing a runner to reach scoring position, the offense put runners aboard in each of the first eight frames while piling up 13 hits (one off Akron's season-high), and the Aeros turned two double plays in the field and delivered an error-free game for the 14th time this season. Every player reached base at least once, eight players had a hit, four collected multiple hits, five had at least one RBI, and the Aeros scored five of their seven runs with two outs.

Give Me More Gomez...

With his win last night Gomez improved to 3-0 in an Akron uniform since being promoted April 29th from Class A Kinston, winning all three of his starts. The right-hander allowed just four singles and no walks, faced the minimum 15 hitters over five innings, and his eight strikeouts were his most since April 10th of last season while pitching for Kinston. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last three weeks, allowing just two runs (one earned) and 15 hits in his last 33.0 innings between the Aeros and the K-Tribe (a 0.27 ERA). He has also struck out 27 while walking just four over that span. His eight innings last night were the most since Kevin Dixon also went eight against Altoona May 20th of last year, and Akron starters have allowed now only 10 earned runs in 65 innings during the team's last 12 games (1.38 ERA).

Mills Kills...

1B Beau Mills snapped out of a recent slide with a 3-4 performance against the Curve last night. It was the 10th multi-hit game for Mills, tying him with Jerad Head for second on the team (Jose Constanza leads with 11). Mills struggled on the last home stand finishing 3-23, a mark exacerbated by an 0-13 showing in the three games with Bowie. It took him all of four pitches to get back on track last night however, as his two-out single in the first was a sign of things to come. The 22-year-old California native is second on the team with 32 hits, while his seven doubles and 31 games played are both Aeros highs.

Carving up Altoona...

The Aeros improved to 7-3 in 10 games against Altoona last night, and the club has feasted on Curve pitching with a .289 team batting average while averaging 5.2 runs per game. Jerad Head is hitting .444 against Altoona with a team-leading seven RBI, while lead-off man Jose Constanza is hitting .467 with six stolen bases. On the flip side, Akron pitchers are holding Altoona batters to a meager .210 batting average while striking out 6.5 per game. Designated Domination...Akron designated hitters have been phenomenal this year, as 11 different players in that role have combined to hit .354 with four homers and 19 RBI. Outside of their contribution, the Aeros are hitting only .245 as a team.
