
Portland Gets Even In Trenton, Beat The Thunder 5-2

(Trenton, NJ) - Dusty Brown knocked in four runs and Tommy Hottovy (3-8) pitched six strong innings, leading the Sea Dogs to a 5-2 victory over the Trenton Thunder on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park.
Hottovy allowed five hits and two runs (both in the second) to pick up his first win since June 22 at New Hampshire. Barry Hertzler notched a hold with two scoreless frames and Mike James stranded runners at second and third in the ninth inning to earn his 20th save of the season.
Chase Wright (4-2) took the loss for Trenton, yielding seven hits and three runs over five and 1/3 innings. Portland went 1-for-14 with runners-in-scoring position, picking up that lone hit in the fourth inning on Dusty Brown's 3-run homer (9th of the season), giving the 'Dogs a 3-2 lead. Portland scored two unearned runs off Michael Gardner in the seventh inning - Brown drove in the final run with a fielder's choice.
The Thunder took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning off Hottovy. Noah Hall led off with a single and advanced to third base on a double by Mike Kinkade. 1B Aaron Bates committed a throwing error to allow the game's first run to score and Matt Carson reached on a run-scoring fielder's choice. Hottovy allowed just three base runners over the next three innings and was aided by two double plays.
Bryan Pritz had two hits and scored twice for the Sea Dogs. Pritz began a one-out rally in the fourth inning with an infield hit off Wright. The Portland left fielder reached base safely on an error by 3B Kinkade in the seventh inning, leading to Portland's two runs.
Hertzler allowed a single in the eighth inning but the rally came to a halt when Colin Curtis hit into a 4-6-3 double-play. Hertzler has allowed one run in 9 and 2/3 innings since being activated off the temporary inactive list on July 31.
Tonight's game had a slight delay in the second inning when Trenton Manager Tony Franklin and 2B Gabe Lopez was ejected for arguing balls and strikes.
Portland and Trenton meet in a rubber game on Thursday night at Waterfront Park. RHP Justin Masterson takes on Alan Horne - Game time is 7:05 PM.
