TOUGH STRETCH: Portland has lost six of their last seven and had their 8-game road winning streak snapped on Tuesday night...The Sea Dogs still hold a 3.5 game lead over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, who lost last night in New Britain...Trenton has won five straight games and owns the best record in the Eastern League...Portland is 33-28 on the road - the 2nd best mark in the E.L.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Shortstop Iggy Suarez committed a throwing error in the bottom of the 10th inning, allowing Juan Miranda to score the game-winning run as Trenton took the series opener, 4-3 from the Sea Dogs on Tuesday night. Portland fell in a 2-0 hole in the second inning on an RBI double by Cody Ehlers and a sacrifice fly by P.J. Pilittere. The Sea Dogs came right back in the top of third inning, tying the game on Bubba Bell's two-run double. Both teams scored single runs in the fourth inning, Jeff Natale gave Portland a 3-2 lead with a sacrifice fly. Gabriel Lopez tied the game with a runs-scoring double off Chris Smith. Smith worked six strong innings on six hits and three runs. Kyle Jackson suffered his eighth loss, allowing an unearned run over 1+ inning. Charlie Manning picked up the win by working a scoreless tenth.
STARTING ON THE RIGHT NOTE: Portland received a win from their starters in the first games of the month but haven't received one since...Smith had the last victory for a Portland starter on August 3 at Harrisburg...Tonight's starter Tommy Hottovy is seeking his first win since June 22 at New Hampshire.
THE 100 CLUB: Bubba Bell is second amongst all minor league players with 105 RBI between Lancaster and Portland...Chris Davis of Frisco picked up 4 RBI last night and leads Minor League Baseball with 109 RBI...Bell leads Minor League Baseball in runs scored (118) and is tied with Chris Carter of Tucson (Pacific Coast League) in hits with 158.
GIVE HIM A HIGH 10: Infielder Iggy Suarez has a season-high, 11-game hitting streak from August 2-14...Suarez is hitting .400 (18-for-45) during the streak and has raised his average 43 points since July 7...The Portland shortstop is hitting .306 since the All-Star Break with 2 home runs and 10 RBI.
