BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced today that rookie F Matt Pope has been named a starter for the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game. Pope will take the place of Idaho F Steve Gainey, who is called up to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, in the starting lineup.

Pope (right) and LW Mark Derlago were selected to the National Conference All-Star Team on Dec. 30 and will represent Bakersfield in Reading, Pennsylvania, next week. Pope, 24, currently leads the Condors in points (35) and goals (20), and is tied for 4th in the ECHL (2nd among rookies) in goals and tied for 13th in the ECHL (3rd among rookies) in points.

Derlago, 22, reassigned to Bakersfield from Manitoba (AHL) on Wednesday, has skated the majority of the season with the Moose, but has amassed 9g-11a-20pts in 13 ECHL games with the Condors this year.

Pope and Derlago will both participate in the Skills Competition on Tuesday, Jan. 20 as well as the All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Both events will be aired live on B2 Networks free of charge and will start at 4:05 p.m. (Pacific) each day.

The All-Star Game will also be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230, and be sure to tune in an hour early for a special All-Star Pre-Game Show, with Condors broadcasters Kevin Bartl and Andrew Buchbinder, on ESPN Radio starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
