Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Anchorage, AK - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Alaska Aces met in the first game of a three-game set Wednesday in Anchorage. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Kings while the Aces countered with Marek Schwartz.

The Kings got on the board first via a power play goal by Olivier Filion. The former Ace received a pass from the high slot from Dylan Yeo and blew a one-timer past Schwartz for his ninth goal of the season. The Aces would respond late in the frame when Tomas Kana slid a pass to Lance Galbraith in the slot. Galbraith redirected the pass through the legs of Ellis. The teams would be tied 1-1 after the first period.

The teams both had chance in the second period, but Ellis and Schwartz kicked out all attempts until the Kings notched a late goal. Patrick Coulombe fired a wrist shot from the left point that hit an Aces defender and found the top corner behind Schwartz. Victoria led 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Alaska pressured the Kings through most of the third and were rewarded with 2:15 remaining when Alexandre Imbeault picked up a loose puck in front of the net and roofed it to tie the game.

Overtime would solve nothing, and in the shootout the Aces would notch two goals and the Salmon Kings would be stymied by Schwartz. Aces 3 Salmon Kings 2 in a shootout.

The Salmon Kings win streak is halted at 15 games. It was the second longest in ECHL history. Cincinnati holds the ECHL record with 17 consecutive victories. The Salmon Kings hold the regular season record for consecutive games won in regulation time with 15.

Victoria went 1/7=14.3% on the power play and Alaska ended 0/2=0%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Aces 29-24.

The Salmon Kings and Aces meet in the second game of this three-game set on Friday at 8:15 p.m. PT. Game three is set for Saturday night also at 8:15 p.m. PT.
