Ponies Take Game One of Twin Bill

The Rumble Ponies took game one of Wednesday night's doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium by a 6-3 final.

Erie starter Casey Mize began his night with a 1-2-3 first. In the bottom of the second with two outs, Andres Gimenez connected on a solo home run for a 1-0 lead.

The Ponies knocked Mize out of the game in the fourth after a tough inning. Barrett Barnes led off with a single and moved to third on a Patrick Mazeika double. David Thompson brought home Barnes on a sacrifice fly to right for a 2-0 lead. Gimenez followed with a walk and Gavin Cecchini singled home Mazeika for a 3-0 advantage. Will Toffey doubled home two for a 5-0 lead and Erie would replace Mize with Logan Shore. Shore gave up a double to Quinn Brodey, scoring Toffey for a 6-0 lead.

Erie's three runs came in the seventh against reliever Yeizo Campos. Kody Eaves singled with one out and moved to third on a Sergio Alcantara double. Chace Numata singled home Eaves making it 6-1. Derek Hill followed with an RBI double that scores Alcantara to cut the lead down to four. Isaac Paredes grounded out to the shortstop, scoring Numata to make it a 6-3 game. The 'Wolves would get no closer.

Kevin Smith (2-0) earned the win for the Rumble Ponies hurling six scoreless innings. He allowed five hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Mize (6-1) took the loss allowing six runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
