Tonight, the Erie SeaWolves get set for their eighth doubleheader of the season and third against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at NYSEG Stadium. The SeaWolves took the series opener as Cam Gibson slugged the team's first grand slam of the season and Kyle Funkhouser tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Casey Mize goes in game one and went six innings of one-run ball his last time out on July 27 versus Trenton. The right-hander scattered four hits and struck out six while walking none. Tarik Skubal gets the ball in game two for Erie and is coming off of a no-decision in his last start. In 3.1 innings on July 25 versus Trenton, Skubal allowed a Double-A high five earned runs on eight hits while striking out five. He enters the evening seventh among all MiLB pitchers in total strikeouts (137) in 99.2 innings between Erie and Class-A Lakeland. Both Mize and Skubal are making their first career appearances against the Rumble Ponies. Binghamton features Kevin Smith in the front end of the twin bill and is making his third career start at the Double-A level. Smith earned his first win in a Binghamton uniform in his debut on July 20 at Akron before hurling 5.2 innings and allowing one earned run on two hits against Bowie on July 25. Joseph Shaw will pitch game two for the Ponies and is making his second start of the season. Shaw has pitched with Class-A St. Lucie, Triple-A Syracuse and Binghamton, logging a 2-3 record and 2.27 ERA in 43.2 combined innings. Shaw was a 12th round pick by New York in 2015 out of Dallas Baptist University.
