Akron RubberDucks News Release

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rallied from a one-run deficit with a two-run ninth inning to top the Akron RubberDucks, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Entering the ninth inning with Akron leading 2-1, the Fisher Cats scored twice on a leadoff double followed by four walks off Akron reliever Henry Martinez, which forced in both runs and gave New Hampshire a 3-2 lead.

Mound Presence

Akron RubberDucks starter Sam Hentges went five innings, allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out a season-high nine. It was his first outing since June 12 that he has allowed one run or less. Starting with the final out of the first inning, Hentges would record seven straight outs via strikeout. Argenis Angulo, who returned to Akron from Columbus today, made his first appearance in a Ducks' uniform since May 24 and threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and fanning five. Robert Broom relieved him with a scoreless eighth inning before he allowed a leadoff double in the ninth inning to New Hampshire's Chad Spanberger. After Broom got Kevin Smith to strike out, Henry Martinez entered the game to try for the save. Martinez would walk four of the first five batters he faced, forcing in two Fisher Cats runs.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks offense had eight hits, with catcher Gianpaul Gonzalez leading the way with two, the second time this week he's had a multi-hit game (July 28 at HFD). The Akron runs both came in the fourth inning. Connor Marabell reached on a one-out single. Next batter Alex Call doubled to left, scoring Marabell from first base. Mitch Longo followed with a run-scoring single to give Akron a temporary 2-1 lead.
