Trenton Thunder News Release
A four-run third inning and a three-run fourth helped the Thunder overcome an early deficit in a 7-2 win over the Altoona Curve on Wednesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
After the Curve (18-21, 54-53) plated the game's first run in the top of the third inning on a wild pitch by Thunder starter Nick Green (2-3), the Thunder (19-22, 57-50) rallied in the bottom of the frame. Rashad Crawford tied the game with a solo home run to right field off Nick Economos (0-2), and after a groundout, the next four Thunder batters reached base. Ben Ruta was hit by a pitch and Hoy Park drew a walk, and Chris Gittens plated Ruta on an RBI-single for a 2-1 Thunder lead. Kellin Deglan lined a second straight RBI-single, and Brandon Wagner capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to deep left field.
The Thunder tallied three more runs in the fourth inning on three consecutive run-scoring hits. A Kyle Holder single, a Ben Ruta double, and a Hoy Jun Park single drove home one run each to stretch the Thunder advantage to 7-1.
The run support was plenty for Green, who went on to allow at least one baserunner in each of his innings of work but pitched into the sixth inning, leaving with two outs. Green matched a season-high with four walks but struck out six, one shy of his season-high.
Economos was chased from the game after three and one-third innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on nine hits. Relievers Angel German and Austin Coley held the Thunder scoreless over their final four innings at the plate.
Braden Bristo allowed one run in relief for the Thunder on a Jared Oliva sacrifice fly in the seventh before Trevor Lane pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three, to seal the Thunder victory.
Holder led the Thunder with three hits and was one of six Thunder players to record a multi-hit game.
Your Thunder conclude their homestand on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader, consisting of two seven-inning games, at 5 p.m. against the Curve. RHP Brian Keller (2-1, 2.78) will start Game 1 for the Thunder against Altoona RHP Pedro Vasquez (6-2, 2.81), and RHP Shawn Semple (0-1, 6.00) will start Game 2 for the Thunder against Curve RHP Beau Sulser (7-1, 2.42).
