Altoona Curve News Release
TRENTON, N.J. - The Trenton Thunder scored seven times over two innings to drop the Altoona Curve, 7-2, at ARM & HAMMER Park on Wednesday.
Nick Green (Win, 2-3) held the Curve (54-43, 18-21) to one run over 5.2 innings and came one out shy of just his second quality start of the season for the Thunder (57-50, 19-22). One of his four walks led to Altoona scoring the first run of the game on a wild pitch, which plated Mitchell Tolman in the top of the third.
However, the early lead did not hold long when Rashad Crawford homered to right center on the first pitch of the bottom of the third inning off Curve starter Nicholas Economos (Loss, 0-2). Trenton turned a hit batter and a walk into a four-run inning when Chris Gittens and Kellen Deglan put Trenton on top with back-to-back RBI singles prior to a sacrifice fly by Brandon Wagner.
The Thunder put up three more and chased Economos in the fourth innings. Economos struck out Max Burt to start the inning but four straight hits, including doubles by Crawford and Ben Ruta, brought around the last Trenton runs of the ballgame.
Angel German took over in the fourth and induced an inning-ending double play and went on to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings. Austin Coley shut down Trenton over the last two innings, working around three hits.
Jared Oliva posted his fourth straight two-hit game and plated a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly. Oliva's RBI plated Arden Pabst, who led off the inning with a triple. Bligh Madris also reached twice with a double and a walk. Oneil Cruz went 0-for-4 in the loss.
Economos' seven runs allowed were the most he had surrendered in a game this season.
The series in Trenton wraps up with a double-header beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Right-hander Pedro Vasquez (6-2, 2.81) will start the first game for the Curve with righy Beau Sulser (7-1, 2.42) going in game two. Trenton tabbed right-handers Brian Keller (2-1, 2.78) and Shawn Semple (0-1, 6.00) for the twin bill.
The Curve return to Altoona on Monday for a six-game homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Reading Fightin Phils.
