
Ponies Split Pair of Low-Scoring Games with Fisher Cats

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies split their doubleheader with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Tuesday after winning game one 2-0 and falling in game two 3-1 at NYSEG Stadium.
Game One - Rumble Ponies 2, Fisher Cats 0
The Ponies scored one run in the bottom of the first inning. Jason Krizan belted a double to right and then came around to score on a two-out single by Barrett Barnes. It was Barnes' 50th RBI of the season and first since July 26.
Will Toffey made it a 2-0 game with a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning. It was his fifth homer of the season.
Lefty Kevin Smith (3-1) dazzled as he allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings. RHP Thomas Hatch (0-3) suffered the loss as he gave up two runs on six hits over six innings. Joe Zanghi earned his fourth save with a scoreless seventh inning.
Game Two - Fisher Cats 3, Rumble Ponies 1
The Fisher Cats scored all three of their runs in the top of the first inning. Forrest Wall reached on a drop third strike to begin the game and advanced to second on a passed ball. After Nash Knight reached on catcher's interference, Josh Palacios loaded the bases on an infield hit up the middle. Cullen Large plated the first run with an RBI groundout. Then Chad Spanberger knocked in two runs with a double down the left field line.
The Ponies lone run came in the third inning on a Jason Krizan solo home run to right. It was his 12th homer and 54th RBI of the year. The Ponies tallied just three hits and left two runners on in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Knuckleballer Mickey Jannis (5-4) suffered the loss as he allowed three unearned runs on seven hits and struck out a season-high 10 batters. Righty Joey Murray (1-2) picked up the win as he gave up one run on two hits over five innings and struck out eight. Jake Fishman recorded his third save with two scoreless frames.
The Rumble Ponies and the Fisher Cats continue their four-game series Wednesday at NYSEG Stadium at 6:35 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:20 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Between the two games, Krizan went 3-5 with a home run, a double, two walks and two runs scored... Mazeika also recorded a hit in each of the games.
