Thunder Can't Duck Indians Rehabbers in 8-1 Defeat

AKRON, OH - Three Cleveland Indians pitchers made rehab appearances and held the Thunder offense in check in Akron's 8-1 win over the Thunder on Tuesday night at Canal Park. The loss ended a five-game win streak for the Thunder and was played in front of 8,322 fans, the fifth largest crowd in Rubberducks history.

Corey Kluber, Dan Otero and Tyler Olson held the Thunder to just one run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. The lone run for the Thunder off the three rehabbing Indians was Kyle Holder's solo home run in the fourth inning. The eighth home run of the campaign added to the career-high for Holder who finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate.

Right-hander Albert Abreu was activated from the 7-Day IL prior to the game needed just 12 pitches to work through his first inning before running into second inning trouble. A walk and a base hit put two on with one out in the frame and Oscar Gonzalez slammed a three-run homer to left to take a 3-0 lead. It was Gonzalez's first home run at Double-A.

Abreu was touched for the loss as the 'Ducks never looked back on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old right-hander was limited to 38 pitches in his two innings of work and struck out two.

Shawn Semple pitched four innings of relief and battled his command, walking a career-high five batters, in a piggy-back role behind Abreu. Semple surrendered a run in the third and two more in the fourth inning. He needed 101 pitches to work through his outing.

The Thunder offense had their lone opportunity for serious offense in the fourth inning. After Holder's solo home run off Kluber, Chris Gittens worked a two-out walk and Kellin Deglan lined a single into right field. However, Kluber would come back to strike out Isiah Gilliam to end the threat. Trenton managed a pair of baserunners off Tyler Olson to begin the sixth inning, but, saw three straight batters go down on strikes after Holder singled and Ben Ruta worked a walk.

Andrew Bellatti fired two innings of relief after Semple and Abreu, allowing two runs, one earned, in the eighth inning.
