Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Kane County 2 Beloit 1 (11 Innings) - Monday
WP: Mason (1-1)
LP: Altamirano (0-1)
S: None
Time: 2:59
Attn: 1,665
After 10 scoreless innings between Beloit and Kane County, the Cougars doubled up the Snappers in the 11th inning to win 2-1 in Geneva on Monday. The loss to the first-place Cougars was the Snappers first extra-inning game of the season and is the fifth straight road defeat for Beloit. Snappers pitchers Michael Murray, Dakota Chalmers, and Xavier Altamirano teamed up for 16 strikeouts in the series opener.
Edwin Diaz doubled with one out in the 11th inning, advanced to third on a passed ball, and Nate Mondou brought him home with a sacrifice fly for the first run of the night. Kane County's Luis Silverio and Marcus Wilson coupled together doubles off Altamirano in their portion of the 11th frame to score the Cougars' first run. Things got a harry after Altamirano plunked the Cougars number-two hitter Jason Morozowski with one out. Beloit signaled to the bullpen for Andrew Tomasovich to send the game to the 12th, but Jasrado Chisolm delivered the game-winning hit for the Cougars.
Dakota Chalmers struck out a career-best 10 Cougars over 4.0 innings in a piggy-back relief effort for Beloit. He is the first Athletics prospect to reach double digit strikeouts in a game for the Snappers and the first Snappers pitcher since Tyler Jones on August 17, 2012 to fan 10 or more in a game. Oakland's No. 14 prospect, according to MLB.com, retired the first six hitters he faced, allowed a base hit, and then sat down his final six batters.
Beloit's pitching staff ran their scoreless streak up to 23 innings before Kane County tied the game 1-1 in the 11th inning. All four Snappers pitchers did not walk a batter on Monday for the second game in a row. Snappers pitchers have not issued a free pass since the first inning on Friday to equal 28.1 innings. Beloit pitchers have racked up at least 10 strikeouts in five straight games equaling 62 punch outs over the last 45.1 innings of work.
