Pit Spitters Split with Kingfish

Kenosha, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters lose the second game of the road trip, dropping to a 15-7 record after a 5-4 loss against the Kenosha Kingfish.

The Kingfish led off the bottom of the first with a single and a walk, Camden Janik then advanced to first on an error made by Camden Traficante bringing in a run at the same time to make it 1-0. Cole Gober then singled to left field, bringing across another run to make it 2-0. The Pit Spitters bounced back in the top of the second with three straight singles to pull within 2-1. Jack Crighton came across the plate to tie it at two after a sacrifice fly by Parker Brosius. After a leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth, Miguel Useche singled to left to bring across another run to retake the lead 3-2. Reagan Burford followed the double with a triple, bringing across one more run to make it 4-2. The Pit Spitters got the first two men on base to lead off the top of the sixth, setting up Colin Summerhill to hit a single to right field to cut into the Kingfish lead 4-3. Cole Prout grounded out to second giving Brosius enough time to come across the plate to tie it up at four. After a leadoff single to start the bottom of the eighth, Burford singled to center field to bring across the go-ahead run to make it 5-4. The Pit Spitters got runners on second and third with two outs, but after a long-contested final at-bat, Brendan Summerhill went down looking to end the game.

The Pit Spitters drop to 15-7 on the season, as the Kingfish improve to 9-12. Pit Spitters starting pitcher Aren Gustafson (1-0) threw four innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Nate Blain (4-1) came in for relief throwing four innings, giving up a run on three hits, striking out five and walking two.
