Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (25-20) edged out the Worcester Red Sox (20-25) 2-1 on Thursday evening. The 'Pigs earned their second one-run victory of the season.
Through the first three innings, Cristopher Sanchez, and Thomas Pannone (3-2) each exchanged zeroes despite both lineups put runners on the base paths. The WooSox would strike first in the top of the fourth inning against Sanchez and take a 1-0 lead.
Ronaldo Hernandez singled on a soft ground ball to third base that allowed Ryan Fitzgerald to score. Lehigh Valley tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Yairo Munoz hit a solo home run against Pannone. The home run for Munoz was his second of the season.
Sanchez allowed just one run over four innings before turning things over to Jakob Hernandez (1-0) - who pitched a scoreless top of the fifth inning. Scott Kingery gave Lehigh Valley a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning against Pannone as he hit an RBI single that scored Dalton Guthrie.
Zach Warren and Francisco Morales each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game. Morales earned his first career AAA save.
The IronPigs and WooSox return to action on Friday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
