(DURHAM, NC) - Designated hitter Ryder Jones launched his fifth home run of the season, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game three of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 7-3 on Thursday night from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC.
The Knights managed a total of five hits on the night. Shortstop Danny Mendick had two of the five hits on the evening and scored two of Charlotte's three runs in the game. Jones provided the only long ball of the game for the Knights, a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning.
Durham RHP Kevin Herget (3-0, 1.50) earned the win after he gave up just three runs on five hits over eight impressive innings. Reliever Luke Bard recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to close out the game three win for the Bulls. The Knights have now dropped the first three games of the series.
RHP Lincoln Henzman started for the Knights and was sharp over two shutout innings. LHP Andrew Perez (1-2, 6.33) was the first reliever to enter the game after Henzman and was charged with the loss after he allowed four runs on six hits over just one inning of work.
The two teams will continue the series on Friday from Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch of game four of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. from the home of the Bulls. The game can be heard live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
