Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-38) dropped an 11-4 decision to the Durham Bulls (33-26) on Monday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Pigs took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Chase d'Arnaud knocked a leadoff triple to right before scoring on Brian Bogusevic's RBI groundout.

d'Arnaud's three-bagger marked the first for the IronPigs since May 12 when Dom Brown tripled against Columbus.

In the home half of the third with the bases loaded and two outs, J.P. Arencibia gave Durham a 4-1 lead with a grand slam. It was the ninth home run of the season for Arencibia.

Lehigh Valley cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the fourth as Brown (2-4, HR, RBI, 2 R) reached with a one out single, moved to third on a single and scored on Jordan Danks' (2-4, RBI) RBI single.

The IronPigs inched a little closer courtesy of Bogusevic's sac fly in the fifth that plated Cord Phelps and made it a 4-3 game. Phelps had drawn a leadoff walk in the inning before advancing to third on Gabriel Lino's double.

The Bulls extended the lead to 7-3 with three runs in the fifth against Pigs starter Joely Rodriguez. Arencibia and Curt Casali delivered back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning to go along with an RBI single from Richie Shaffer.

Rodriguez (2-6) took the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits while walking two and fanning five over 4.1 IP.

Durham opened up an 11-3 advantage with four runs in the home half of the sixth against Pigs RHP Tyler Knigge (1.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 2 K). Corey Brown brought home a run with an RBI single, Taylor Motter plated another with an RBI double and a pair of wild pitches by Knigge allowed both Brown and Motter to score later in the frame.

RHP Matt Buschmann (6-4) earned the win for manager Jared Sandberg's squad as he surrendered three runs on six hits over 6.2 IP to go along with three walks and five strikeouts.

Lehigh Valley cut the lead to 11-4 in the eighth as Brown belted a solo shot to right, his first home run of the season.

RHP Hector Neris (2.0 IP) tossed a pair of scoreless frames in relief for the Pigs.

The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as Pigs RHP Phillippe Aumont (2-3, 2.35) will battle Bulls LHP Scott Diamond (5-2, 3.38).
