Clippers Battle Back to Defeat Bats, 6-5

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Louisville Bats (31-27) drop the first game of the series to the Columbus Clippers (30-28) Monday night at Huntington Park, 6-5.

The Bats took the lead in the top of the fourth after a two run home run by Chris Dominguez, making it his fifth home run of the season making it 2-0.

Columbus answered immediately in the bottom with an identical play by Jerry Sands with a two run homer to right center to tie the game, 2-2.

Top of the sixth, Dominguez singled to first recording a team high of 26 RBIs sending home first baseman Josh Satin to give the lead back to the Bats making it 3-2.

Two more runs were tacked on in the seventh giving the Bats their largest lead of the game, 5-2.

The Clippers added on two runs late in the game to bring it to a close 5-4 trailing the Bats. Bottom of the 9th Jesus Aguilar triples on a fly ball tying the ballgame. A single RBI from Jerry Sands allowed Columbus to grab the win 6-5.

Right-hander Josh Smith (1-3, 3.51) exited the game in the seventh. He pitched six innings, gave up two hits, two earned runs, three walks, struck out one and allowed one home run. Louisville had four pitchers take the mound on the night. Jumbo Diaz (0-1) took the loss.

Lefty Michael Roth (W, 6-2, 3.42) left the game in the sixth. He gave up two hits, three earned runs, two walks, striking out four and allowing one home run. Dustin Molleken (4-0) picked up the win for Buffalo.

Starting tonight on major league rehab, Devin Mesoraco went 0-for-3 at the plate, had one strikeout and had no chances in left field. Jason Bourgeois was 0-for-2 and was walked by Roth.

The Bats face the Clippers again tomorrow night at 7:05. Scheduled to take the mound for Louisville is lefty David Holmberg (3-4, 4.68) and for Columbus right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (1-2, 3.24).
