Rochester Red Wings infielder James Beresford and outfielder Danny Ortiz have been named the Batavia Downs Gaming and Racetrack Co-Players of the Week for the period of June 1-7.
The Wings only played five games in the last week due to rain and an off day, but both players were productive in the short week - and have been productive all season. Both had identical .375 averages (6-for-16) for the week, and both scored a pair of runs. Ortiz now has a team-leading 34 RBI - second in the league going into play Monday - and Beresford's .329 season average is fourth in the league and tops on the Wings.
Batavia Downs Racetrack and Batavia Downs Gaming present the award each week during the regular season. Batavia Downs Gaming is a Video Gaming Center owned and operated by Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation in association with the New York Lottery. Batavia Downs Racetrack
Batavia Downs Racetrack, America's oldest lighted harness track, features live races beginning July 27 until December 12. There will be Sunday afternoon racing at Batavia Downs from August 2 through August 30 with a 1:15 p.m. post. Matinees are also scheduled for Labor Day September 7 and Columbus Day, October 12 also with 1:15 p.m. starts. Click here for this season's race schedule.
