Toledo Falls 4-3 in Extras to Columbus

June 8, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Sunday night, the Toledo Mud Hens (26-31) fell in a 3-2 decision to the Columbus Clippers (28-28). After a one-hour rain delay, the Hens slide to 6-5 overall when competing against the Clippers this year.

Hens' hurler Thad Weber over the course of 8.1 innings, allowed only one run and one hit, one of his best showings this season. Alberto Cabrera (2-1) was given his first loss of the season, giving up two hits and one run in the 12th.

Toledo held the lead until the ninth when a pair of singles by the Clippers was enough to claim the lead. Until Xavier "X-Man" Avery doubled late in the ninth, driving home Corey Jones to send the matchup into extras.

The innings leading up to the 12th seemed to almost fly by. Thanks to three strike outs by Toledo's Josh Zeid and the extra effort of the defense.

Entering the 12th, Columbus's Jesus Aguilar managed to sneak a fly ball into right field. The hit was enough to score the winning run.

The Mud Hens are back in action tomorrow night at Fifth Third Field taking on the Syracuse Chiefs (18-39). Tomorrows' matchup is slated for 7 p.m. with lefty Mike Belfiore making the start.
