CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union today announced that the club has added MLS pool goalkeeper Charlie Lyon (pronounced: LION) to the team's roster, due to Extreme Hardship.

Lyon, 27, most recently played with Portland Timbers 2 of the USL. He was originally selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the Fourth Round (75th overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and spent two seasons with the club, appearing in 42 games with Sounders 2, before moving to Orange County SC in 2017. Last year, he was a member of Los Angeles FC's inaugural MLS roster.

Per the MLS Roster Rules and Regulations, a club may add a pool goalkeeper to the roster due to Extreme Hardship when it has fewer than two goalkeepers available. Union goalkeeper Matt Freese exited Wednesday's game against FC Cincinnati and has been diagnosed with an oblique strain. Meanwhile, Andre Blake is progressing well through his rehabilitation from a right adductor strain but remains sidelined. No timetable is set for either player's return.
