AMARILLO, Texas - The Sioux Falls Pheasants could not solve the Amarillo Sox on Wednesday night, losing a 4-2 contest and dropping their second game in a row.

Amarillo led for the entire game since after jumping to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Three consecutive hits came from the heart of Amarillo's order, Cyle Hankerd, Lee Cruz and Benji Johnson, with Cruz and Johnson each collecting an RBI.

The Pheasants had runners at the corners with no outs in the fourth inning. They tallied a run on Trevor Lawhorn's sacrifice fly, but the ensuing throw caught Mark Shorey in a run down in between first and second base for a double play. Francisco Leandro then flew out to left field to end the inning.

The Sox started the bottom half of the fourth with three consecutive hits, the last a two-run double from Chris Nash to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Sioux Falls grabbed a run on Joe Anthonsen's two-out single in the seventh to score Leandro. In the next at-bat, Kevin Carby nearly missed a double with a hard smash that caromed off the first base bag and made for an easy putout for first baseman Nash to end the inning.

The Pheasants threatened a final time in the ninth by putting the tying runs on. But Joe Anthonsen's hard-hit ground ball back to the mound was fielded cleanly by closer Corey Bass to end the game.

Amarillo starter Justin Garcia (1-1) earned his first victory with seven innings of work. He allowed six hits and two runs, walking two and striking out four. Bass earned his third save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Pheasants starter Brad Stone (1-2) took the loss. He gave up four runs and nine hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out four. Sam Walls provided the Pheasants with a perfect 1 2/3 innings of relief in the seventh and eighth innings.

The finale of the three-game series is at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 in Amarillo. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and online at www.kwsn.com.
